Until we had our first entomologists visiting Mount Totumas Cloud Forest, we did not fully realize the unique assets of the site for collectors and research. We are off the grid and generate our own power with no competing light sources in the vast area that borders La Amistad NP. When we set up metal halide and mercury vapor light traps to attract nocturnal insects the results have been spectacular, attracting thousands of insects endemic to the highlands. There is excellent collecting possible at the doorstep of the cabins with light traps mounted on the deck and nearby grounds. We are expanding the existing flower gardens which are focused on attracting butterflies and hummingbirds.
Entomologists and entomology groups are welcome!
